Memo #2 for my I-Search Project
I have used the library database for several semesters now, and it has been an amazing tool for all types of research papers that I have done. But even though I have been using it for a while, learning about it in more detail during Wednesday’s class, opened up my eyes to even more new things. Before then I never knew that I could watch an educational video from the library database, or that I can check to see if local public libraries have the book that I need. Also I learned how to navigate through the physical library and not just its website. I never went through the library looking for books before, I would always just look up articles for certain topics online. So now that I am able to find my way around the library, which will only improve my research for this project, because not only do I have an abundance of information available to me from the articles on the libraries database, but I also can search through full length books that have been writing specifically for my particular topic.

When I read the first four sources that I rented from the library, three out of the four had nothing to do with my I-Seach project the way that I expected them to. After I had a small panic attack, I went onto the RIC website and managed to find two articles that are perfect for my topic. I also rented two more books (hopefully these book will turn out to be better then the others). But as I wait for those books to arrive at my schools library I will focus on the articles that I have already found
ReplyDeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that you were able to find other sources that pertained to your topic. Many books oftentimes seem to be perfect for your topic until you begin to read them. Narrowing down your research vocabulary and finding out what works is always important. I kept on having to trying dozens of vocabulary words to find what I needed. The struggle is real! Hope the books you rented prove to be helpful! Always remember to talk to the RIC librarians. They are ALWAYS useful and can help you find almost anything! (I think they are secret magicians or something).
I am still waiting on several books from the library, but the book that I am currently looking at is called "Small-Group Reading Instructions" by Beverly Tyner and Sharon E. Green. The book seems to be mainly focused about group reading in a classroom but there is small sections about writing in groups.
ReplyDeleteThe Articles that I am reading right now are "Teaching Reading and Writing to Struggling Middle School and High School Students:The Case for Reciprocal Teaching" Wayne H. Slater and Franklin R. Horstman. This article talks about the ways that teachers can better prepare students that are struggling in both reading and writing. I will focus just on the writing parts of this article.
And the other article that I am reading, is called "Achievement Goal Orientations and Self-Regulation in Writing: An Integrative Perspective" by Avi Kaplan and Einat Lichtinger. I just started reading this article, from what I've read so far the point of this article is the possible differences between students from different types of learning environments and with different levels of writing achievement.
I should be picking up some of the other books from the library this afternoon, I am waiting on four books, and I received an email saying two are there now. I will also try and find some more articles during Spring Break.
